The short answer
Bathroom grants in Wexford: the short answer
Wexford County Council pays the Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability, up to €40,000, and the Mobility Aids Grant, up to €8,000, towards an accessible bathroom. The work must not start until the council approves it. Bathroom Renovations Wexford is not a council and doesn't award grants.
The grants
Three grants, one application form
| Grant | Most it pays | Income | Bathroom work |
|---|---|---|---|
| Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability | €40,000 | Up to 100% under €37,500, tapering to 30% near €75,000; nothing over it | Accessible shower, downstairs toilet or shower room |
| Mobility Aids Grant | €8,000 | Up to €37,500 | Level-access shower, grab rails |
| Housing Aid for Older People | €10,700 | Up to €75,000, aged 66 or over | Essential repairs, not a bathroom upgrade |
One form covers all three. The council decides which one fits.
How Wexford assesses it
What Wexford County Council looks at
- The gross income of the homeowner and spouse for the previous tax year. Over €75,000, there's no disability grant.
- An occupational therapist's report may be needed, setting out the recommended work.
- The work has to be necessary to make the house suitable for a member of the household with a disability.
The VAT
Getting the VAT back
Once the council has paid the grant, you can reclaim the VAT on the adaptation work from Revenue, on Form 61A. So ask for the VAT shown separately on the written price.

The old maximums are out of date
The maximums went up in the last round of increases: the disability grant from €30,000 to €40,000, and the Mobility Aids Grant from €6,000 to €8,000. Some guides still give the old figures.
